Now, of course I couldn't do just one, so.....Also, I have yet to write out the corresponding blessings, but when I do, I'll come back here and post those with the pictures.
To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is a tradition in the northern part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei, or 100 Good Wishes Quilt. It is their custom to invite friends and family to contribute a patch of cloth, along with a wish (or a prayer or blessing) for the new baby. The patch of cloth goes into the quilt for the baby, and a 2nd little piece of the cloth (just a little sample) is attached to "the wish" for the child. The quilt symbolizes the prayers and good wishes from all the family and friends who contributed a piece of fabric. Then this sentimental quilt, and corresponding scrapbook of 100 wishes, are passed down from generation to generation. In keeping with this Chinese tradition, we invite you, our sweet friends and family, to "welcome" Macy Li by being a part of her Bai Jia Bei. Xie Xie !!
I am a passionate follower of Jesus (falling short every day), wife to Phillip for over 22 years, mom to 3 amazing young men who inspire me daily, and mom to 1 little Chinese angel....prayin' that one day they'll rise up and call me blessed! This blog started out in May 2008 when we were waiting on our adopted daughter, Macy Li, in hopes of keeping our friends in the loop on the happenings...and has turned into a journal/scrapbook of sorts of our lives.
